Program Description
The objective of our teacher training program is to provide trainees with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to be successful ESL/EFL teachers.
This program is recognized by TESL Canada. Students who successfully complete this program may apply for TESL Canada’s Professional Standard Two certification,
provided they meet language and education requirements.
Cambridge TKT* exam option
Students will have an opportunity to prepare for and take the Cambridge Teaching Knowledge Test during the TESOL program of study. Practice tests and special TKT workshops will be provided. Students will receive certificates from Cambridge University.
Entry Requirements
- Grade 12 graduation or GED, or mature student status
- International students must demonstrate an advanced level of English with our online written test and arranged speaking interview*
- A university degree is recommended
- Native English speakers will have a preliminary grammar review quiz
and interview
Note*: The online written test is exempt if iBT 80, IELTS 6.5 or ILSC Advanced 1 is presented.
Program Overview
Module A: Methodology for Teaching Speaking, Listening, and Pronunciation, Linguistics, Pedagogical Theory, Material Analysis and Development
Module B: Methodology for Teaching Grammar, Reading, and Writing, Second Language Acquisition, Feedback and Error Correction
Module C: Methodology for teaching Vocabulary and Integrated Skills, Teaching Children, Unit Planning and Curriculum Development, Testing, Evaluation and Assessment
All modules will include Classroom Management, Lesson Planning, Teacher Discourse, Intercultural Awareness and Communication, Professional Conduct and Development.
Practicum
Students will observe 10 or more hours of ESL classes, will spend time with a mentor teacher, and will teach their own class for at least 10 hours as their final practicum, under the supervision of a sponsor teacher.

What is TESL Canada?

What is TKT?
TKT is a test from Cambridge ESOL about teaching English to speakers of other languages. It aims to increase teachers' confidence
and enhance job prospects by focusing on the core teaching knowledge needed by teachers of primary, secondary or adult learners,
anywhere in the world. This flexible and accessible award will help you to understand different methodologies for teaching,
the 'language of teaching', the ways in which resources can be used, the key aspects of lesson planning,
